Hobbies and Collecting Quotes

Collecting quotes is a free hobby that everyone should enjoy.

Most people generally have between two and five active hobbies.   These are things we do for personal enjoyment or enrichment.  Hobbies can be broadly divided up into a few different categories:

Body Hobbies
This includes participating in sports, exercising, yoga, dancing, biking, hiking, camping, boating, fishing or similar activities.

Creative Hobbies
This includes creating artwork, painting, playing music, cooking, building or designing things, programming, photography, blogging, podcasting, writing, or other creative activities.

Intellectual or Consumption Hobbies
This includes collecting things, reading, listening to podcasts, watching tv, watching documentaries or movies, playing games.

You could say these groupings are somewhat correlated to the classic body / soul / mind paradigm of balancing human experience.   There are some activities which have overlap between the categories.  Gardening might include some body and creative aspects.   Playing video games might involve a lot of consumption of media, but also creativity.  Debating or having discussions might include some aspects of creativity and intellectual/consumption.

Some other definitions of hobby categories might also include "social hobbies", but from the Consciocentric view, this category is usually either one of the above body, creative or intellectual/consumption hobbies, but just with friends or family included.   For instance, you might have a social group who plays games together or goes on hikes together, or plays music together, etc...

It is recommended that to improve happiness and fulfillment in ones life, that each person should have at least one hobby from each of the above categories, and preferably more than one.   You don't need to do each one every day, but should plan out some hobby time each day to get that fulfillment and enrichment, and plan out a variety of types over any given week.

Collecting Quotes
One hobby that the Consciocentric Paradigm highly recommends:  Starting a collection of Quotes.

1. Collecting Quotes is Free
Your collection may just include a few dozen, hundreds, or thousands of quotes.  Many other things you might collect like coins, cards, comics, or other items may cost significant amounts of money.   Having a quote collection is free and open to everyone to participate in.

2. Collecting Quotes is Fulfilling
Discovering new quotes that resonate and adding them into a collection of favorites can be very fulfilling. Sometimes a simple quote may have deep meaning and insights which provide a sense of emotional resonance and fulfillment.

3. Collecting Quotes is Healthy for the Mind
Quotes often act as catalysts or triggers to ones mind, unlocking fundamental ideas or concepts, and engaging the mind with novel and new neural connections.   Having a collection of quotes that you occasionally review or read through helps to improve cognitive function, solidifying concepts and resolving cognitive dissonance.

4. Collecting Quotes is Good for Social Interaction and Conversation
If you have a collection of quotes that you have collected and you occasionally revisit and re-read, you will find that in various social interactions and casual conversations, your mind will jump to quotes of relevance, and if you bring them up in conversation it is often valuable and interesting to others to hear a famous quote related to the topic of discussion.   Even if you don't directly bring up the quote, that mental/neural triggering that occurs in conversations related to a quote will lead you to be able to add additional insights to the conversation.

Fun fact:  The origin of the Consciocentric Paradigm Online started over thirty years ago in the 1990s as a published collection of quotes related to science, philosophy, consciousness and creativity.
