Memory Beyond the Brain

Consciousness and memory are non-local, not constrained to the brain.

Our classic model of human physiology and physics tends to adhere to a dogma that the brain is the center of consciousness, and that consciousness is born out of brain, but the reality is that quantum physics and cutting edge biology studies show that the brain is more of just a major consciousness processing center in the body, but not the only part of the body - The brain is a transceiver that both receives information from our consciousness and transmits information to our consciousness.   But consciousness and memory are stored in a non-local fashion, and spread among every cell and neuron in our bodies, and in a more general sense, directly connected to matter on a fundamental level.

Tufts University Biological Study with Flatworms:

Tal Shomrat and Michael Levin at Tufts university performed a study on flatworms to better understand how memory is stored from a biological perspective.  Incredibly, if you cut a flatworm in half, separating its head and brain, the lower portion of the body will regrow a new head and brain.

That is incredible enough by itself and a testament to the wonders of biology and consciousness, but the even more interesting discovery is that the memories of the flatworm will be retained.

In their study, they first trained flatworms to go toward a light to obtain food.   (they are normally, naturally light averse)   After they cut the flatworms in half and let them regenerate heads and brains, they tested the worms, and the ones that had been previously trained to ignore their aversion to light to obtain food exhibited the same behavior -- showing that memories must be encoded not just in the brain, but somewhere or somehow else.

Here is their research paper, published in the Journal of Experimental Biology:
